Description
Upma is a delectable and healthy South Indian breakfast. It's a flavourful dish made by continuously roasting semolina or rava in a spiced boiling water. Upma is a savoury version of suji halva .
Cooking Steps
1. Heat ghee in a pan and add semolina (suji) and fry until turns slightly brown.
2. Transfer the roasted semolina to a plate and keep it aside.
3. Heat the remaining ghee in a pan and add mustard seeds, curry leaves, urad dal, chana dal and cashew nuts and fry until they turn slight brown. Add onion, green chilli and ginger and fry until the onion turns pinkish.
4. Add carrots and peas and cook on high heat.
5. Add water, salt, sugar and lemon juice and bring it to boil.
6. Add semolina and mix well. Cover the pan and cook it on low heat for 3 - 4 mins.
